My Yoga Journey

Words cannot describe the profound impact yoga has had on my life.

As a teenager and into my twenties, my life was a rollercoaster. I had high highs and low lows. Confidence was always a major issue - I just didn't have any! I suffered with body dysmorphia and negative thought patterns. This led to unhealthy behaviours including bulimia, binge eating disorder, alcohol and drug misuse, smoking and self harm. As I approached 30, I felt more and more broken. My anxiety was at an all time high and I felt like everything was going to tumble. And thank goodness in some ways it did...

In 2020, soon after my 30th birthday I found Travis Eliot's podcast called 'Be Ultimate'. This changed the course of my life! The podcast breaks down yoga philosophy in easy to understand language and there is so much wisdom within these episodes - I highly recommend checking it out. This was the catalyst for me to make some drastic changes. I was inspired to read more, learn more and dive deeper into the philosophy of yoga. I embarked on Travis's Level Up 108 Programme. Each day was an hour of yoga, plus meditation or pranayama and I cut out alcohol and ate predominantly plant based food for 108 days. I can honestly say I felt like a different person after completing this programme. It gave me more confidence than I've ever experienced before and very shortly after I signed up for my first yoga teacher training.

I began my training in June 2021 with Yoga London. The teachers, along with the wonderful students I studied with have inspired and motivated me so much on this journey. I learnt about acceptance, gratitude, compassion and generosity. Sadly, Yoga London closed before we graduated and this meant starting the 200 hour teacher training from scratch. I studied online to gain my qualification through Your Yoga Flow and graduated in March 2022.

I taught my first ever yoga class at Anytime Fitness Dorchester on 7th December 2021 as a student teacher. Then in the summer of 2022 I started leading classes in the parks of Dorchester. It was during this time that Space Yoga was born. In the short time I have been teaching I have led over 1000 classes in both indoor and outdoor locations. I guide group classes and work with private clients 1:1 or in small groups.

Yoga has given me so much. Confidence, acceptance, self compassion, love, awareness, wisdom. Yoga is for everyone - it may take some time to find the style, teacher or environment that is right for you, but when you do, I promise you it has the potential to transform your life forever.

Sharing the practice of yoga has become my Dharma and I continue to learn and grow every day. I hope to have the honour of practising with you.

Namaste,

Jeni
